the Pow Wow

So... after a week or so of doing nothing really noteworthy (read: school, soccer, Rec Center classes, naps and play dates!) we had a very busy and exciting Saturday!
~
It began with me running a 5K "kick off" race, then all of us having lunch and playing games at the Fall Festival!
~
Then there was a 6th birthday party for a good friend - a hunting theme, no less! Lots of cammo, play guns, bows & arrows, and targets - Hamp loved it!
~
But the neatest part of the day was our evening activity: the Smoking River Pow Wow. (I encourage you to click on the link, then click on the photo in the bottom right hand corner of the page to watch the 1:30 minute slide show of the event - it's pretty cool!) The boys enjoyed being outside in the mountains, listening to the drums, seeing all the amazing costumes, and even getting to dance in the sacred circle with the Native dancers!

This picture doesn't do it justice, but gives you an idea of the scope of the event - a beautiful backdrop of the White River Valley, a very respectful flag and veteran ceremony, and some beautiful regalia... what a unique opportunity and great cultural event!
