So You Think You Can Dance?

This just cracks me up...

The church bells play hymns every day at 5pm. Usually, Sam will drop eveything and run out to the driveway to dance to the bells. The kid has moves. I just got lucky and caught him in the act tonight... note the great final posture when he realizes the song is over.

the rut

One of Meeker's favorite September passtimes is to drive up the South Fork Valley and watch/hear the elk rut - the scenery is georgeous, the elk are beautiful and to hear them calling is pretty exciting! (from a naturistic point of view, anyway!)

It was a prefect end to a very busy but fun weekend... what a way to see the sun go down!

the Pow Wow

So... after a week or so of doing nothing really noteworthy (read: school, soccer, Rec Center classes, naps and play dates!) we had a very busy and exciting Saturday!
~
It began with me running a 5K "kick off" race, then all of us having lunch and playing games at the Fall Festival!
~
Then there was a 6th birthday party for a good friend - a hunting theme, no less! Lots of cammo, play guns, bows & arrows, and targets - Hamp loved it!
~
But the neatest part of the day was our evening activity: the Smoking River Pow Wow. (I encourage you to click on the link, then click on the photo in the bottom right hand corner of the page to watch the 1:30 minute slide show of the event - it's pretty cool!) The boys enjoyed being outside in the mountains, listening to the drums, seeing all the amazing costumes, and even getting to dance in the sacred circle with the Native dancers!

This picture doesn't do it justice, but gives you an idea of the scope of the event - a beautiful backdrop of the White River Valley, a very respectful flag and veteran ceremony, and some beautiful regalia... what a unique opportunity and great cultural event!

Go Jackets!

In honor of Dad-O's presence tonight at the Georgia Tech vs. Miami game (in Miami!) the boys showed their support the best way they know how...

Have fun Dad-O - and beat Miami!!!

update: ouch. In retrospect, perhaps we'll just stick to the Lady Vols! :-) Sorry, Dad-O.

the Meeker Classic

This weekend was the very exciting Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials. We've been every year since we moved here - it is the biggest event in town! I keep thinking that the boys will find it intriguing, or interesting at best. But as you can see, Hamp was merely enjoying the outdoors...

Sam, at least liked looking at the sheep and dog that kept running around...But even with a petting zoo, many fascinating booths with arts & crafts, lots of people and good food, the most interesting aspect by far was the ditch...

put me in, coach

Soccer practice is going well...
No games yet, but this past week we had a scrimmage, which got the kids pretty excited!

They even wanted to do pushups!!!
(oooooh, coach was a little worn out after practice!)

Dinger, No!

So.... during the baseball game, kids have an opportunity to meet & greet with Dinger, the Rockies mascot. There was a long line, but Jessica and I took the three boys to wait in hopes of a photo with the big, purple dinosaur.

Well this is the only photo we got because Dinger figured it was time to go home as soon as we got to the front of the line! (I love Jessica's face in the background - total disbelief!)

As you can see, the boys were terribly disappointed!

Go Rockies!

We took off Sunday for a little Colorado Rockies baseball - and were pleased to watch them beat the Arizona Diamondbacks. We spent time with our dear friend Marty (who lives in Denver) and also met up with our good friends from Meeker: Jason, Jessica and Skylar!
The boys thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine, the baseball, the peanuts, the snowcones...

... but mostly, they enjoyed hanging out at the stadium park!

What a great way to spend a weekend! Rock on!

soccer practice

As we get into our new school routine - we are also accommodating for soccer practice twice a week. Hamp loves the social time and the activity, and not to fall short of big brother's habits, Sam rejoices in the opportunity to play at the park with his buddies, too!

While the photo suggests that Hamp is in charge of running drills, I am here to say that is not the case. In fact, the best part of the story is the identity of Hamp's coach this year:

ME!
(Yes, the 8-year old who picked dandelions and danced on the soccer field is all grown up and coaching 5-6 year old soccer. Who would have ever imagined?!!)

Let's hope for a good season - more pictures to come I'm sure!
