peaking at just the right time

Sam's last Track & Field season was pretty spectacular!
And the fact that he had such great people on his team made it even better...

He worked hard at Triple Jump, though never improved over last year's mark.
His High Jump however was pretty great, and he set a personal best at 5' 10" which qualified him to compete at the State Meet!

He dedicated most of his efforts this year to Pole Vault - wanting to not only qualify for State, and place like he did last year, but also setting his sights for the Meeker High School record of 13' 4".

His years of gymnastics paid off as I watched him every weekend launch himself into the air, feet over head, and contort just right to get over that bar!

What a joy to watch his hard work and dedication pay off at the State Meet in Denver... and how great to have friends and family there to cheer him on!

He vaulted amazing - so focused and calm.
He knew what he came to do and knew that he was ready.
He came in at 12' 3" and cleared it great.
He cleared 12' 9" first try.
At 13' 3" he cleared it first try, which was amazing because he had never gone that high before! A personal best at the State Meet would have been something to be proud of...
... but it wasn't enough for the school record, and Sam knew it.
So he got ready for the next height of 13' 9" and he missed the first vault by just a little, but you could tell that he knew he had it!
And he did... 3rd Place finish at State, with a personal best and new school record to boot!

He couldn't have gotten so much better, week after week if it hadn't been for his amazing coach and her enthusiasm for her athletes. She should be proud of her 3 placers this year and how well they all competed!
