Best in Show!

Hamp took on the adventure this year of being in 4-H Dog class - a 5 month program that teaches all sorts of great canine curriculum including obedience, showmanship, grooming and health, anatomy and even research!

Hamp was excited to sign up for 2 reasons:
- he would get to spend lots of time with his dog
- he would get to spend lots of time with his friends who were in the program, too!!!

I was excited for Hamp to work with his dog, and more importantly learn something outside of the regular classroom. For 4-H projects there is an equal part of book keeping and research that accompanies the fun hands on stuff... and Hamp actually enjoyed writing his essay, keeping record of his dog's expenses (dog food!) and doing a presentation on Rescue Dogs....

Although frustrating at times (like when Gabe would literally drag Hamp across the cement floor!) it was ultimately rewarding and Hamp overall enjoyed the experience!

As for Gabe, he now can sit, lie down, stay and he generally comes when he's called... and he's more cemented as Hamp's best friend than ever!!!

Here are some pictures from all the training and classes that they have done together:

The whole class after a great day of training!

Finally ~ the day they had worked toward!
The dog show at the County Fair

And so, the culmination of 5 months of hard work was a great day at the fair...

... and two place ribbons!

Hamp and Gabe won 4th place in showmanship, and 2nd place in obedience!

But of course the best part of the day:

spending it with friends!
